Two stages, two timelines
Ontario PNP processing time has two stages: the provincial nomination stage, which Ontario handles, and the permanent residence stage, which IRCC handles. Each has its own timeline, and the total is the sum of both.
TL;DR
- The OWP stream is new — Ontario has not published processing times for it yet.
- No OWP draws had run as of late October 2026, so the nomination stage has not started in practice.
- IRCC processing times for PR applications are published on Canada.ca and updated regularly.
- Extensions, missing documents and employer compliance checks are the usual delays.
- A nomination is not permanent residence — IRCC makes the final decision.
The nomination stage: what we know
Ontario has not published OWP processing times yet. The EOI portal opened August 4, 2026, and no draws had run as of late October 2026. Once draws begin and applications are received, Ontario will publish its own timeline — and we will update this page monthly. The old streams typically took 30–60 days from application to nomination once submitted, but that was under the old framework and is not a promise.
The IRCC permanent residence stage
IRCC publishes processing times for PR applications on Canada.ca and updates them regularly. The actual time depends on your application route, the completeness of your documents, medicals, police certificates, and IRCC’s queue. Check the official IRCC processing times page for the current figure rather than relying on older guides.
What affects your timeline
- Employer compliance — a genuine job offer from a compliant employer speeds the nomination stage.
- Documents — language test results, ECAs, police certificates and medicals must be current and valid.
- Status — if your permit is expiring, extensions add time to the overall path.
- Completeness — incomplete applications are the most common delay.
How to check your status
Use the OINP portal for your nomination stage and IRCC’s online tracker for your PR stage — see our IRCC Application Status Tracker guide. Our processing time service page also covers what to do while you wait.
